Paddling

Canoeing or kayaking is something I can’t claim to have tried on the River Dart, but I can testify to the increasing number of opportunities there are for visitors to take to the water with a paddle and we regularly see groups exploring creeks and coves around Dartmouth. We can also claim to have welcomed a number of canoeing guests at the apartment, attracted by the spacious garage and the easy launch such a short distance away.

There are several local companies offering canoe rental (1 man, 2 man or group canoes) and many offer guided tours and formal training too:
Sea Kayak Devon – 01392 580535
Canoe Adventures – 01803 865301
– Dartmouth Yacht Club Canoe Section – 01803 832663

If you are just looking for guidance on where to paddle your own canoe, look at the Paddle Points website. You could get your rods out and try fishing too – here are some pointers on Kayak Fishing.

Remember that the tide will make all the difference to your speed up and down river – buy a tide table or look online at EasyTide – remember to take account of Summer Time!
